No man is an island, they say, but judging by our recent Connect2Law Annual Conference, we could update the start of that phrase to ‘No lawyer’. During the event, held in the beautiful surroundings of the Atholl Palace in Pitlochry, ideas were shared, problems discussed and solutions ventured, as 64 legal professionals came together to talk about topical subjects in our profession.
Two of the main topics discussed at the Conference were the issues of succession planning and Alternative Business Structures (ABS), with the workshops hosted by Chris Kerr and Donnie Munro on the topic of succession planning arguably being the most interactive and vocal. Interestingly, many people were intrigued to discover several delegates actually viewed ABS as a mechanism from which exit strategies could be created.
Feedback on the event has been extremely positive, with delegates commenting that the frank and honest presentation by our Chairman, Professor Lorne Crerar on Harper Macleod’s journey was “interesting and in many ways inspiring”; and that Professor Robert Rennie’s workshop on thorny issues in conveyancing was “excellent as always” and “certainly got everybody thinking”.
All in all, it was a great day and we’re looking forward to planning the 2011 Connect2Law conference already!
